Our Wallet Approach: Seamless On-Chain Access & Embedded Convenience

When we set out to build Display, our mission was to give users a smooth, near-invisible on-chain experience from their iPhone—no extra tabs, no external pop-ups, no headaches. In service of that goal, we’ve implemented two key wallet strategies:

1. Mobile Wallet Protocol (MWP) Integration with Coinbase
2. Embedded Wallets powered by Privy

Here’s how they work together to give you effortless on-chain transactions.

1. Mobile Wallet Protocol (MWP) for Quick & Secure Connections

What is MWP?

MWP is an open protocol that connects mobile apps directly to wallet apps via deep links. This removes the need for an external bridge or relay server, making each transaction:

• Simple: Request/response messages flow directly between your phone’s apps.
• Direct: Uses deep links so you don’t have to fuss with third-party websites.
• Secure: Encrypted, peer-to-peer communication.
• Efficient: Supports batch requests, minimizing the back-and-forth needed to sign transactions.
• Decentralized: Verification uses well-known URI standards, so there’s no single centralized registry.

How We Use It

We rely on MWP to allow you to sign in with your existing wallet (for example, a Coinbase Wallet) and easily manage your on-chain identity on Base, the chain that powers Display’s minting. There’s no complicated setup or unpredictable in-app browsers—just a quick, verifiable handshake between Display and your wallet.

2. Embedded Wallets by Privy for Easy Minting

Why Embedded Wallets?

Not everyone wants to juggle external wallet apps. An embedded wallet is built right into Display, allowing you to mint new NFTs seamlessly without ever leaving the app. It’s the best of both worlds:

• Frictionless: Deposit a bit of crypto on Base, and you’re ready to mint instantly.
• Secure: Privy handles the robust encryption under the hood, so your keys remain safely backed up.
• Fast: Display and Privy together ensure near-instant transactions, thanks to minimal overhead and a direct pipeline to the Base chain.

Setting Up Your Embedded Wallet

When you log in or sign up for Display, you’ll be prompted to create a Privy-powered embedded wallet—either automatically (for new users) or manually via our simple “Create Wallet” button. This process can be customized:

• Automatic Creation: If config.embedded.ethereum.createOnLogin is set to 'users-without-wallets' or 'all-users', your wallet is created during your first login.
• Manual Creation: You can always call wallet.create() via our Privy Expo SDK to spin up a wallet whenever you need, specifying your preferred recovery method (e.g., ‘privy’, ‘user-passcode’, ‘google-drive’, or ‘icloud’).

Putting It All Together: Peak iPhone Native Blockchain Efficiency

By combining MWP and Privy:

1. Users with Existing Wallets (like Coinbase) can log in via MWP, leveraging their own addresses and security.
2. Newcomers can create a Privy embedded wallet in seconds—just deposit a bit of ETH (on Base) and start minting away.
3. Everyone enjoys a frictionless, iOS-native experience with no complicated bridging or tab-switching.

The result is an intuitive on-chain journey that caters to both power users and first-time NFT collectors. Your phone’s secure environment, combined with Display’s emphasis on single-hand usability, makes discovering and minting art feel as simple as scrolling through your favorite social feed.
